The Hull Including Men Network
“Its like taking your tight shoes off!”
The network was set up in 2007 in partnership with Hull City Council Parenting Development Team as part of a larger commission including training for all staff across the council from Children’s centre receptionists to senior managers.
The network has grown from strength to strength over the past few years with over 100 active members from across the city from health visitors, to teachers; children centre staff and teenage pregnancy workers.
The network members have worked together to shape services across Hull for men and the children they care for by working together on themes such as, engaging with young fathers, recognising and including disabled dads, developing men friendly publicity and involving men in children’s learning.
Projects developed through the network include a fantastic ante/post natal DVD produced and written by HIM network members which will be given out to for all new dads in Hull at their baby’s first scan.
The HIM network has grown to become one of Fathers Plus’ most popular networks in the UK and continues to inspire, challenge and support practitioners working to include men in Hull.
Comments from recent meeting include:
“Its like taking your tight shoes off!”
“Always leave these meetings fired up with enthusiasm”
“Lots of opportunity to network. There is a wealth of support which is heart-warming.”
“Very good session with a real feeling of practical optimism..”
