Family Man Schools Outreach Programme - Video Launched
Children North East Fathers Plus in partnership with The North East Regional Museums Hub have developed a new exciting website that looks at how dads and family men have lived throughout history.
The Family Man Schools outreach programme has now been running for six months and is very popular with dads, granddads, family men and their children. Schools and teaching staff are also experiencing the benefit of having family men involved in their children's learning.
The Fathers Plus team work with the school to help recruit fathers onto the session and help them to look at their approach to working with father and male carers.
The sessions are delivered by Fathers Plus, The North East Regional Museums Hub and a historical interpreter and are suitable for children aged 5-11 to learn about family men through the ages and include their own family men in fun learning activities in schools.
The Family Man day in school begins with school dinners with dad, then a fun session on the family man website, a visit from a historical dad, such as Roman dad and Egyptian dad and a giant games session in the hall with real games from the website brought to live. The day is hand on and very interactive. Everyone receives a free family man goody bag too!
At the end of the day each child is given a miniature video camera with which to interview their dads about their perceptions of school and how they would like to get involved in school the future.
Check out the last three minutes of the clip to see the delight on the faces of the dads and their children as they interview each other about the Family Man project.
